The season kicked off at Oulton Park last weekend with a great show from Lee Hardy’s RAF Regular & Reserve Kawasaki race team.

A brace of top ten finishes was the least the Ryan deserved

Ryan Vickers started the season in what proved to be a tight race. The race team states, “with riders lap times extremely close, overtaking was no easy task, and ninth place was the outcome but with the seventh fastest lap of the race.” Vickers’ great show on Friday left him in a great starting position for Sunday’s opening 18-lap race.

He started strong on Saturday, being part of the eight-rider battle for the position, remaining solidly in the top six for the first half of the race. Unfortunately, a drop in tyre performance meant he was unable to keep his pace, leaving him with an 11th place finish in “a race that deserved better.” The final race for Vickers echoed much of the prior race, with Vickers riding consistently in the top six. In the closing stages, Vickers lost a bit of grip leading him to slip into ninth place. The team states “it had a been a fine weekend and he deservedly left Oulton with a good haul of points to his name.”

Lewis Rollo also took to the track last weekend in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship race with Lewis Rollo qualifying for the 14-lap encounter in 11th place. A great start from Lewis saw him jump to fifth place in the opening lap but another rider caused Lewis to be pushed wide and have to take the slip road at the chicane. This saw Lewis drop down to 17th place which he continuously moved up from throughout the remainder of the race achieving 12th place and four hard-earned Championship points.

Lee Hardy, Team Owner: “It’s been a really good weekend and if someone had offered me these results at the beginning of the weekend, I’d have snatched their hand off. Ryan had a good pace all weekend and we’re in a position where we don’t need to make big changes with the bike and it’s all about fine-tuning things now particularly with the tyre life. It’s a new spec tyre for 2021 so we just need a bit of time to understand how it works but once we’ve done that, I’m confident we’ll be there or thereabouts at each round.”

“Lewis also rode well all weekend and can consider himself extremely unlucky not to have come away with a top-five finish. Getting pushed off track by another rider at Hizzy’s ruined his race as the time lost by having to take the slip road is massive. He dropped a long way back but fought really hard to climb the field and with a few of the main championship contenders failing to finish, those points could be crucial come season’s end.”
